Luke 17:11-19 (CEB)
By: Eric McEuen
This Saturday October 11th we will learn more about the story of Jesus healing ten men with leprosy, including a Samaritan. But only the Samaritan thanked Jesus and praised God for this healing and Jesus has some poignant words in response. In this story, the person who shows the most gratitude for healing is the one who begins as an outsider in multiple ways. Not only is he afflicted by a disease that keeps most people at a distance, but he is also subject to ethnic and religious discrimination as a Samaritan among Jews. Does this outsider status have anything to do with the gratitude he shows for being healed? Eric will explore this while lifting up stories of some more modern “outsiders.”
