In the End: The End (of What?) Is Near
Scripture: Amos 8:1-12
By: Minister Eric McEuen
Join us this Saturday morning at 10am. While Pastor Lauretta is away for two weeks, we will take a break from the Bible's creation stories, and Eric will focus on the flip side: Biblical warnings about coming destruction. Such warnings are often misunderstood, but they also emerge from a vision of what God wants: a world of abundance, justice and sharing. What happens when these aren't practiced?
This week, Eric will reflect on the prophet Amos, perhaps the world's earliest source of what we now call "social justice." (Perhaps his most famous line is "Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an every-flowing stream.) What are we to make of his prophecy of destruction, and of its cause: economic injustice and lack of concern for the poor? Can we find good news in it that speaks to today's world of accelerating wealth inequality and ecological destruction?
