Sermon: "A Simple Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich"
Matthew 13.10-13 & 13.31-33 NRSV

Since the advent of the church many people have found the parables of Jesus to be quite puzzling.  The perplexity of the parables may have something to do with how ambiguous and multifaceted in meaning they can be. It can create great confusion to try to interpret the parables literally.  Even Jesus’ disciples—those closest to him in proximity—struggled to grasp the meaning of the parables. What do the parables have to say to us today and especially at this transition point in The Land? This Saturday we’ll continue to look at the parables in the Gospel of Matthew.  In light of our communal stories of saints, mystics and misfits, Blair will reflect on two of the shortest parables in Matthew: the Parable of the Mustard Seed and the Parable of the Leaven/Yeast. Come join us to find out what parables, saints, community organizing, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all have in common!
