The Unexpected Spirit

  • The Land UMC 840 South Powhaton Road Aurora, CO, 80018 United States (map)

Pentecost is sometimes called "the birth of the Church." It's specifically known for the arrival of the Holy Spirit, as told in Acts 2. Yet what kind of Spirit is this? What happens when it shows up, and what characterizes a community led by this Spirit? (Hint: Even those who have walked most closely with Jesus and have heard his promises of the Spirit's arrival seem bewildered and amazed.) What does this story tell us about the Holy Spirit and about our ability to understand or control it? And what might the story have to teach us in this time in the life of The Land? Eric will invite us into an imaginative engagement with this story and its surprises.
